Have you ever tried step downs? While they’re obviously beneficial to many patients recovering from knee pain, we often prescribe them for patients experiencing back pain (especially lower back pain) or pelvic floor dysfunction.
While they may look easy, doing step downs correctly requires many different muscle groups to work together. This exercise is especially useful because you step down every day of your life! That makes doing them correctly extra important.
When trying step downs, be sure to keep your weight-bearing knee strong and centered.
If you are new to step downs or nervous about your balance, be sure to practice them next to a countertop or another stable surface you can grab for support.
