Today we took Shelby the blue and gold macaw out for her first ever free flying session without a harness or lead. When asking yourself, how do I know if my bird is ready to free fly, there are several things that should be considered. We still are not sure that Shelby is entirely ready, however we will keep trying short bursts of flights without a harness amongst our usual training regime.
Free flying a macaw should only be attempted by someone with experience and knowledge in free flying birds. Please do not release an untrained bird without mentor supervision or advice first.
