The future of cancer medicine and the potential for personalized precision medicine using AI tools

Stephen Gilbert, PhD, Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health at Dresden University of Technology, Dresden, Germany, discusses the future of cancer medicine, outlining the main changes and advances. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) tools will likely see the advent of personalized precision medicine at the point of care and the rise of doctor-in-the-loop systems, in which next-generation companion applications will respond to data from wearables and the patient to allow for AI-enabled decision support. Prof. Gilbert highlights that these tools hold great promise for enabling personalized care, provided the regulatory frameworks allow their implementation. This interview took place at the Shaping the Future of Medicine (STFOM 2024) congress held in Leipzig, Germany.
