The focus of the conference is on successful planning and management approaches for ecotourism in and around protected areas to strengthen livelihoods and conservation and contribute to adaptation.
The conference aims to:
share and build new knowledge of ecotourism policy and practice to progress ecotourism in protected areas
bring forward realistic solutions to advance ecotourism management practice in a platform for peer learning
develop global partnerships and regional (local) networks for bringing positive change and sustainability in the ecotourism sector
The conference is organized by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), and jointly hosted by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (MOHT) and the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry (MOECAF), Myanmar.
The conference is endorsed by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and has support from key sponsors, including the GMS-Environment Operations Center, the European Union, EMPOWER Consultancy, the Wildlife Conservation Society, and the Kempinski Hotel.
