What’s truly disheartening is the revelation that developed countries are contributing to this crisis. They are illegally exporting not only paper garbage but also a significant amount of mixed plastics, burdening Indonesia with an overwhelming waste management challenge.
This irresponsible behavior has far-reaching consequences, leading to water pollution and the release of harmful microplastics into both the water and the air. What’s more tragic is that many local workers, known as scavengers, are unaware of the health risks posed by these microplastics.
