This video was produced for the Boise National Forest during the team's fire prevention assignment in late July and early August of 2021.
The video was intended to show what a day is like for a Fire Prevention Technician in light of the fire danger level and fire restrictions on the forest at the time.
The video was posted on the Forest Facebook page with this description:
"Did you know?
More than 95 percent of wildland fires are contained in the first 24 hours of initial response, meaning tens of thousands of fires are extinguished before becoming large wildfires. This is due to our wildland fire crews that work tirelessly all season to stop wildland fires in their tracks.
Kim Drake, with the Cascade Ranger District, is a Fire Prevention Technician who works patrolling the forest and informing visitors about current fire restrictions, leave no trace principles, and extinguishing campfires that are still left smoldering.
Help Kim and all wildland firefighters stay safe this summer by doing your part in following Fire Restrictions and making sure your campfire at developed recreation sites is cold to the touch. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave!"
