In Ghana, the Akans are the dominant ethnic group. They follow a wide variety of cultural customs, faiths, and superstitions. The Akans' family structure is one fascinating aspect of them. Like many other tribes, the Akans practice matrilineal inheritance. A child is thought to have a spirit connection to the father and a blood connection to the mother. As a result, the father is the outsider among the mother, the child, and the father. Yet, the youngster is related to his uncle because he is the mother's brother and the two are therefore blood relatives. Your mother's sisters are your mothers, and all of her brothers are your uncles.
