Operation Wrath of God by Mossad | Munich Olympic Massacre | @examshala

Operation Wrath of God was a covert assassination campaign conducted by Israel in response to the kidnapping and murder of 11 Israeli athletes by Palestinian militants during the 1972 Munich Olympics. The operation was authorized by a secret Israeli committee chaired by Prime Minister Golda Meir and Defense Minister Moshe Dayan. It aimed to target individuals directly or indirectly associated with Black September, the Fatah-affiliated group responsible for the Munich massacre. The Wrath of God hit squad, codenamed Bayonet, consisted of members from Mossad (Israel's foreign intelligence agency) and received support from special operations units in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The campaign involved tracking down and eliminating those suspected of planning or participating in the Munich attacks. It began with the assassination of Wael Zwaiter in Rome, followed by Mahmoud Hamshari in Paris. Four other suspects were also killed over the following months. Operation Spring of Youth in April 1973 was one of the most notable missions, targeting PLO leadership in Beirut. However, it had unintended consequences, including the mistaken killing of an innocent man in Lillehammer, Norway, which led to the exposure of Mossad's extensive European network. As a result of international pressure, Israel suspended the targeted assassination program.

The campaign was reactivated in 1979 to assassinate Ali Hassan Salameh in Beirut, known as the "Red Prince." The story of Operation Wrath of God was depicted in the 2005 film "Munich," directed by Steven Spielberg.
