Ship Stability Video 80: A Complex SFBM Numerical
A correct understanding of SF & BM by a student is evident from the shape of the curves he draws. The concavity, convexity peak values, straight line vs curvilinear run, etc. are very important. There are several ways of finding out SF & BM values. In case of a box vessel, it is convenient to find out the ordinates of a curve by algebraically summing up the area under the previous curve. However, in case of a box vessel, SFBM at selected points can also be found by the method, I used in case of beams. This principle is also utilized in finding the SFBM at selected points on a bulk carrier, typically at the transverse bulkheads, without doing elaborate calculations. In this video, Capt. S.S. Chaudhari explains the above using a numerical from his book.
