HOW to PROTECT VEGETABLE PLANTS When TEMPERATURE is HIGH! (+90 Degrees in Summer)🔥 Shirley Bovshow

🔥 Shirley Bovshow shows you how to protect vegetable plants when the temperature is high and soars over 90-degrees in Summer! 90-degrees Fahrenheit is considered excessive heat for garden plants, specifically when high temperatures persist for 5 to 7 days.

🔥 The high temperature has an effect on vegetable plants. For example, tomato plants stop flowering at over 90 degrees and their leaves wilt from sun-up to sun-down making it impossible for the plant to take up water efficiently.

🔥 Other summer vegetable garden plants drop their leaves or the leaves turn brown. There are many things you can do to protect plants from the heatwave.

🔥Shirley shares some hot tips on how to keep plants cool in extreme heat and how to keep the soil cool and moist in the summer!

✅ Summer plant care tips fall into three categories:

1. SHADE Structure:
Use a shade cloth and simple materials to build a DIY Shade Canopy for plants.
The video has step-by-step instructions for a simple shade structure made from 4 wood posts and shade fabric from the garden center.

2. WATERING PLANTS:
Watering the garden correctly in hot weather
--Water early in the day during a heatwave
-Water the plant roots directly,
NEVER WET the leaves because the sun's magnification will burn the leaves.

-
3.MULCH, MULCH, MULCH!
Every gardener knows that a thick layer of mulch will keep the soil cool and moist in summer as well as plants.

There are also summer plant care tips for WHAT NOT TO DO!
-Stop fertilizing plants in extreme heat
-Stop using insecticides and other chemicals during very hot weather
-Stop pruning and cutting plants
-Don't mow lawns too low or it will expose the soil which will scorch the soil!

Good luck gardening in the heat!
