Last year James Stirling @londonfitnessguy stopped breathing through his mouth.
This led James to becoming an Advanced instructor in breathing learning under @patrickmckeownofficial and @oxygenadvantage
Here's 3 changes that happen when you nasal breath!
1️⃣ During exercise
The huge advantage from breathing through our nose, we increase o2 uptake in the blood. This means more energy available for the muscles to use and we fatigue less easily. For runners, the less energy required to run at a given pace, the better
2️⃣ Recovery / Sleep
Breathing light, slow and deep gives better quality sleep. This means better recovery to exercise the following day!
3️⃣ Stress & illness
Research shows that if you are stressed you are more likely to experience inflammation. Breathing exercises that increase co2 have an effect on our vagus nerve. Over time, this builds greater resistance to stressors.
Nasal breathing is a game changer.
Studies: 1. "Effects of a nasal breathing protocol on physical fitness and pulmonary function in young basketball players." The Journal of sports medicine and physical fitness (2021).
2. The work, ways, positions and patterns of nasal breathing (relevance in heart and lung illness).
