If you have a lot of icons on your desktop and something gets moved or rearranged, it can be a hassle trying to find your shortcuts or files when they are mixed in with all your other desktop icons. There is a free app called Desktop Restore that can be used to make a backup of your desktop icon layout and then restore it as needed. You can also create multiple backup files with different layouts and then restore them as well.
