Many people ask if we can still go on holiday when we have a pet macaw, and ask us where we send our blue and gold macaw when we go away. Are there macaw pet sitters or bird hotels? Well, we are lucky enough to be part of a large free flying community who are all willing to jump in and support us with bird sitting as and when we need it.
Shelby was lucky enough to visit her friend Rocket, and Rocket's parents for four nights whilst Dan and I went on holiday to Norfolk and she had an absolutely amazing time. This is part one of Shelby the Macaw's holiday so keep and eye out for part 2 coming very soon!
Shelby is a free flying macaw and we taught her how to free fly ourselves, however Rocket's mummy and daddy didn't free fly her over this weekend, because the success of macaw free flight very much depends on the returning to someone they have a solid bond with. We didn't want her to fly off in search of us!
But, we did fly her when we got back so look out for free flying parrots in part 2!
