Before I start working on any guitar, I give it a full eval. This includes taking measurements of string height, pickup height, neck relief, as well as any electrical issues that I can see before taking anything apart.
This process can be a bit tedious, but having these notes as I'm doing my actual repairs is very helpful. Also, being able to send this comprehensive sheet with my quote helps my clients feel at ease and fully understand what is going on with their instruments.
