We are getting down on the OBS big block shop truck this week! We're tackling a whole ton of work on this Chevy 454ss, starting with the interior. The dash section of this 1500 is getting gutted because even though this truck is a parts-getter for the shop, we can't have a cracked dash falling apart as we're grabbing our nuts and bolts! While that dash is out, we're working on the inside of our firewall to mount up our Restomod Haymaker unit and all of it's controls. While we're there, we're also securing our Holley Sniper EFI ignition box and coil, so that those electronics aren't cluttering up our engine bay. Under the dash is also where our electronic shift controller is getting mounted, so that we can wire it into our Sniper unit and be able to control our 4L80 transmission.
With all the work done underneath the dash, we can get started piecing together our decrepit dashboard. We're merging a new-to-us dash panel with a few new bezels and all the old components from our original dash. From there, we're fabricating up some little cubby's and panels to fill in all the ugly, unused spaces that are no longer needed, and creating a nice faceplate to mount the controls for our restomod AC control knobs. This new dashboard is also getting a bluetooth headunit, along with some tiny Kenwood dash speakers so we can blast some tunes while heading to the parts store.
Even though the interior isn't 100% wired up, we're just about ready to hop inside this truck and turn the key! Make sure to subscribe because next episode, we're mounting our radiator, making our final wiring connections, fabricating an exhaust and flipping that ignition switch for a first fire up! Don't miss it!
