The bridge that spans the Swatara creek near Jonestown has been closed since mid-April when demolition and the rebuilding of the bridge began. Detours are in place for cars that use route 72. Vehicles can use Route 22 and Route 343 to get around the construction. The project is expected to cost around $5 million dollars to replace the existing structure. All work is expected to be complete by November 20, 2024. Besides replacing the existing bridge, the project consists of minor roadway reconstruction, guiderail improvements and drainage improvements.
