Students sitting the 11+ Exams in the UK (aged 9 or 10) have to be able to answer questions like this with only around 30 seconds per question.
This question asks us to find the next pair of letters in the series. We first need to determine how the first and second letter in each pair is connected. Once we’ve done this, then we can apply the same rule to work out the missing letter pair.
Luckily, we are given the alphabet to help us out!
The tricky part in this question is that there are actually two series within one here!
The first series involves the first, third and fifth letter pairs.
The first letter of each pair shifts forward by two places, and the second letter in each pair also shifts forward by two places.
The second series involves the second, fourth, and sixth letter pairs.
Again, both the first and second letter of each pair shift forward by two places.
So, we can find the sixth pair by applying these rules to the fourth letter pair.
Moving forward two places from the letters C and G, gives the next pair of letters in the series as EI.
Were you able to solve this question within 30 seconds? If so, then you’d be great at the 11+.
