Hi all,
some of you will know how keen I am on NZ made musical gear. We have world class makers here in Aotearoa and the World needs to know about them.

Rather than just having a good moan I’ve been trying to think of ways I can help.
After many conversations with other small manufacturers I’ve come up with an idea.

I’m starting a series of YouTube videos where I chat with NZ makers so we can all get to know them a little better.
I figure that seeing and hearing the person behind the product, hearing their story, their philosophy, will help promote what they do beyond just their website. Some of these makers you may not even have heard of.

It’s a very simple format, just recording a Skype conversation. There is some editing mainly cutting out my own waffle but I do try and keep edits to a minimum.
I am not a professional presenter I’m just an ordinary bloke working with what I’ve got and this is way out of my comfort zone but I hope you’ll find the content interesting.

I’ve called the series “MrGlyn Meets Your Maker”.

Who Am I?
I manufacturer electric guitar pickups in NZ - www.mrglynspickups.com
I started out in my native Wales being just a hopeful young guitar enthusiast who always took things apart to see how they worked.
Eventually I took it more seriously and in the mid 90’s enrolled at the Leeds College of Music studying guitar making and repair full time.
On leaving college I went to work for JHS working on new Ovation, Jackson and Encore guitars. Then I saw an opportunity and bought a rundown guitar shop in Leeds selling and repairing guitars where I stayed for 10years building up the business. During that time I went back to my old college as a lecturer in electric guitar making and repair.
In 2005 I moved to New Zealand and set up MrGlyn’s Guitar Repair in Auckland where I repaired up to 800 guitars a year.
In 2012 I started developing the range of pickups I now sell. I finally closed the doors of MrGlyn’s Guitar Repair at the end of March 2020 to solely concentrate on pickups I had been a full time guitar repairer for 25 years.
I now work from my home in Muriwai building the pickup business.
I gig regularly, love pedals and work hard not to develop a vintage amplifier habit.
