The Best Way to Surf and Ski in One Day: Malibu to Los Angeles National Forest in One Day | Surf to Snow: We’re on a California adventure that’s unique to where we both live. In Los Angeles County, you can surf and ski on the same day. It’s an adventure we’ve been dying to try. The Los Angeles area is home to more than ten million people all living within a short drive of the Pacific Ocean and three rugged mountain ranges. It’s one of the things Californians love to brag about in LA: you can start your day surfing at the beach and end it skiing in the mountains. Even though Colton and I love to do both, we’ve never given that one day challenge a try.
Surfing:
1:41 Pacific Coast Highway: we’re headed straight towards Malibu in the Los Angeles area and we’re heading right to Leo Carrillo which is a beach in North Malibu to do a little bit of surfing.
2:12 Leo Carrillo State Park: this park in Malibu is situated between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean with two and a half miles of shoreline. It’s a great place to enjoy the surf.
4:06 Being in Nature Can Boost Self-Esteem: we know that being out in nature is not only fun, it’s good for your health, both physically and mentally. It reduces stress and makes you feel happier and research shows that for young people, being in nature can boost self-esteem
7:30 Dolphins in Malibu: one of the things we love about surfing is you’re so connected to the ocean, we look over and dolphins are just swimming right by us!
7:47 About the Pacific Ocean: the Pacific Ocean is the world’s biggest body of water, taking up more than ⅓ of the planet’s surface and it touches all 1,000 miles of California’s shoreline.
Skiing:
11:20 We are in the mountains now and it is so crazy to think that a couple hours ago we were in the ocean surfing and now the landscape is covered in snow
11:30 About Los Angeles National Forest: About 25 miles north of downtown LA is Angeles National Forest which includes large parts of the San Gabriel Mountains in the Sierra Pallone Mountains. Elevations ranging from 1,200 to 10,000 feet which makes for some great skiing.
13:50 Angeles National Forest covers over 650,000 acres. It’s like a big backyard playground to the huge metropolitan area of LA. It’s also crucial that the state’s water supply provides over 135 billion gallons of water per year.
