The British government built a memorial of this historic war at Chelyanwala in 1871. Which, despite the passage of 150 years, remains in its original but relatively dilapidated condition.
According to the inscription on the monument, the British army was led by General Gough while the Sikh army was led by the local Raja Sher Singh in this battle that took place on 13 January 1849.
According to historians, the Sikh army of 12 thousand soldiers defeated the British. The British army had difficulty in fronting due to the dense forest. Among the wars fought throughout India, this battle had the highest number of white soldiers killed at once.
