HCFAI Webinar - Human Farm Animal Dynamics Digital Farming - Dr. Xavier Boivin - INRAE France

HCFAI (Human Computer Farm Animal Interactions) - Webinar ~ Farm Tech Meets Animal Care - A Digital Perspective - Organized by Professor Suresh Neethirajan - Dalhousie University, Canada and Professor Scott Stacey, University of Guelph, Canada

Is technology genuinely designed to enhance animal welfare, or is it primarily a mechanism for farmers to amplify their profits? Delve into the intriguing world of Human-Computer Farm Animal Interactions with us. This journey poses essential questions: Are we truly bettering the lives of farm animals with technology, or are we commodifying them for greater productivity? How can we ethically align the quest for sustainable and profitable farming? Where do farmers fit into this equation—are they guardians of animal welfare or solely focused on maximizing efficiency? Engage in this vital conversation at our webinar, where we'll explore the intricate relationship between ethics, technology, and the future of agriculture.

Dr. Xavier Boivin - INRAE, France - Relational Practices in Human-Farm Animal Dynamics in Digital Farming

From an ethological standpoint, human-farm animal relationships are continually shaped by past interactions and influence future ones. Emerging technologies and mechanization profoundly impact these relationships, prompting farmers to reassess their practices and personal goals through a ONE welfare-oriented lens. While studies highlight a diverse range of farmer attitudes towards human-animal relationships and a general interest in these technologies, the question remains: how will they prioritize nurturing the essential connections formed with their animals in today's digitalized landscape? Exploring research perspectives, I will delve into the concept of 'relational practices' as a possible effective way to manage farm animals and fostering mutually beneficial working relationships.
