For past few months, UNHCR India and Ricky Kej have been committed to train and mentor 24 young refugee musicians and give them an opportunity to showcase their talent. In this initiative, Ricky Kej has dedicated his time to connect virtually and provide guidance to refugee musician to express their feelings and provide them a chance to fulfil their dreams. The refugee's youth shared their heart-breaking stories of watching loved ones being kidnapped or killed, forced to flee the comfort of their homes, and leave everything they knew behind. Through this project, we hope to share experiences and talent of young refugee musician to advocate for greater support for the cause and offer hope to other 80 million refugees around the world.
Throughout history, India has welcomed refugees from all over the world despite our own challenges. Some of the refugee communities in India would have lost their heritage, culture, and language but for India’s nurturing and protecting these communities under its pluralistic framework. In such a background, Ricky for Refugee initiative’s support and advocacy is instrumental to India’s approach.
