We had earlier reported that the Tamil remake rights of the Mollywood superhit Ayyapanum Koshiyum starring Prithviraj and Biju Menon in the title roles has been bagged by S Kathireasan, who has produced acclaimed films like ‘Aadukalam’ and ‘Jigarthanda’. Now, the latest that we hear is versatile actors Sasikumar and Sarath Kumar is likely to play the lead roles in the Tamil remake. It is rumoured that Sasikumar is expected to reprise Prithviraj’s role and Sarath Kumar will be essaying the role played by Biju Menon. However, an official confirmation is awaited.
Ayyappanum Koshiyum the revenge drama that revolved around an ego clash between a police officer named Ayyappan Nair, played by Biju Menon, and a retired havildar named Koshy Kurian, essayed by Prithviraj, is written and helmed by Sachy. The movie hit the screens a month ago and was a huge success at the box-office grossing over rupees 50 crores and also earned critical acclaims. 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum' is produced by the banner Gold Coin Motion Pictures.
The 'Kalakkatha' song, has emerged as the most viewed Malayalam film song of 2020 to date with over One Crore views. The song marked the playback singing debut of the senior folklore singer Nanjamma, who had also penned lyrics for the song. Jakes Bejoy, the popular young musician has composed the single.
It was recently announced that National award winning lyricist actor and director Pa Vijay is set to return to direction after Strawberry and Aaruthra with a new movie titled Medhavi and that this movie will be a multistarrer.
Produced by Makkal Arasan pictures, the movie will have Action King Arjun and Jiiva sharing screen space for the first time and will have Ayogya, Sanga Thamizhan fame Raashi khanna as the female lead.
Now it has been revealed that Arjun plays an investigating police officer, Jiiva will be seen as an assistant director while Raashi Khanna plays a reporter in Medhavi. Medhavi, which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja will begin shoot after lockdown.
Director Gautham Vasudev Menon who had last directed Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta starring Dhanush, has a number of movies like Vikram starrer Dhruva Natchathiram and Varun starrer Joshua lined up for release.
On the other hand, the director had recently released a short film during the lockdown, Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn which was an extension of his 2010 romantic blockbuster Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, and featured Simbu and Trisha.
While there are rumours making the rounds that Gautham Vasudev Menon will be directing Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya 2 with Simbu and Trisha for Vels Film International, the latest news is that his next with Vels might be a fresh love story which will have Simbu and Trisha besides Anushka as another female lead. An official clarification on this rumour is awaited. Earlier Trisha and Anushka were a part of Gautham Vasudev Menon's Yennai Arindhal.
After the decision of releasing Ponmagal Vandhal in OTT Karthik Subbaraj was touted to have followed suit with his Penguin to be released on Amazon Prime Video, while an official announcement on the same confirmed this - May 29 will mark the release of Ponmagal Vandhal in OTT, while Penguin is expected to release by June 19.
Madhavan and Anushka Shetty's thriller movie Nishabdham movie is the project that was next expected to lock an OTT release, as per media speculation. But quashing rumors about an early OTT release, producer of the movie Kona Venkat has mentioned that they are eyeing a theatrical release and that is the priority, failing which OTT release will be considered as an alternate option.
