Blue whales are the largest known animal to have ever lived on earth. They migrate to the waters near Dana Point, California, to feast on krill, a small crustacean. Blue whales can eat up to 4 tons of krill each day. When breathing the air leaves their blow hole at over 100 miles per hour and reaches up to 30 feet high in the air. They exchange 90% of air in their lungs (in comparison, humans exchange 10%). In addition to being the largest animal, blue whales are also the loudest. Their vocalizations can be heard from 500 miles away.
