patreon.com/heingart (Patreon) The Myanmarese is a "fictional" folk rock and psychedelic rock band formed in Myanmar in 1990. Blending the country's traditional music with the deep and layered psychedelic rock sounds of the West, the band quickly established itself in the local scene.
Their founding years coincided with a period of political and social transformation in Myanmar. In this atmosphere, The Myanmarese attracted attention with their music emphasizing free thought and spiritual journeys. They combined elements of traditional Myanmar instruments such as the saung (Burmese harp), pat waing (Burmese percussion) and bamboo flute with heavy guitar riffs and atmospheric synth sounds from the West, creating a unique musical language.
The band's first album, Dreamfall, released in 1991, invited the listener to both the mystical nature of Myanmar and a personal inner exploration. The album was full of songs that explored a variety of themes, from the calm flow of the Irrawaddy River to the purifying power of monsoon rains and the misty image of ancient pagodas.
The band combined the dynamics of modern rock and traditional music to contribute to Myanmar’s musical heritage while also trying to capture a universal language. While their lyrics often focused on topics such as spiritual quests, being in touch with nature and change, their music was characterized by sweeping guitar solos, meditative rhythms and hypnotic atmospheres.
