How to Install Waydroid in Fedora 41 Workstation | Install Android in Fedora Linux | Wayroid Custom

A container-based approach to boot a full Android system on regular GNU/Linux systems running Wayland based desktop environments. How to Install Waydroid in Fedora 41 Workstation | Install Android in Fedora Linux | Wayroid Custom Images.

Welcome to Tech Solutions! In today’s tutorial, I will guide you through the process of installing Waydroid on Fedora 41. Waydroid is a powerful, open-source solution that allows you to run a full Android system on your Linux machine. With Waydroid, you can seamlessly enjoy Android apps directly on your Fedora setup.

Before we begin, let’s prepare everything we need. To speed up the installation process, I recommend downloading the required Waydroid system and vendor images from SourceForge. You can choose the Android images you prefer for Waydroid installation by heading to the provided SourceForge link. While Waydroid offers an option to initialize the system automatically later, this method can be slow. As you can see, I have already downloaded the required system and vendor images, extracted them from their zip files, and ensured they are in the correct format.

Now, let’s start the installation. First, open the Terminal app on your Fedora system. Update your package index by running the dnf update command. Once the update is complete, install Waydroid directly from the official Fedora repositories using the command:

sudo dnf install waydroid

This simplifies the installation process as there is no need to add additional repositories. Once the installation is complete, exit the terminal.

Next, reopen the terminal and navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded Android system and vendor images. Verify that the required files are present and proceed to create the necessary directories for Waydroid. Create the directories one by one, as demonstrated, and move the system and vendor images to their respective directories. Verify that the files were moved successfully.

Once the files are in place, initialize Waydroid by running the following command in the terminal:
sudo waydroid init

This command will set up Waydroid with the downloaded images and prepare it for first use. After the initialization is complete, you’re ready to launch Waydroid.

Open your applications menu, find Waydroid, and start it. You should now see a full Android system running on your Fedora 40. With Waydroid, you can install and run any Android app of your choice right on your Linux machine, giving you the best of both worlds.
