Established by occupational therapists with a pioneering spirit at the Newcastle Hospitals in 2018, the Sensational Thinking Project’s original aim was to respond to a significant increase in referrals to occupational therapy for children experiencing sensory processing differences causing a negative impact on how they engaged in everyday activities, function and development.
The rationale for the project was to ensure that along with a sensory assessment, all those involved in the life of a child with sensory processing differences would be offered the opportunity to attend tailored sensory awareness sessions delivered by Sensory integration trained occupational therapists. This would include parents, carers, practitioners and school staff.
Our video explains why this approach is so important and what it means for our patients, their families and our staff.
