Big Creek Campground, situated on the outskirts of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, is conveniently located just a brief 10-minute drive from the Nisqually entrance of Mt. Rainier National Park. Serving as an ideal alternative for those unable to secure a spot at Cougar Rock Campground, it provides a practical base camp for those eager to explore Mt. Rainier National Park.
Close proximity to the modest town of Ashford, Washington, ensures access to essential amenities, including a general store, gas station, outfitters store, and restaurants. Notably, the campground is nestled beside a residential neighborhood along Big Creek. As a courtesy, visitors are encouraged to be mindful of their noise levels and maintain a respectful atmosphere.
The campground features well-dispersed campsites, with approximately half of them situated alongside the creek and the remainder backing onto the forest. Several pull-through sites cater to trailers and larger RVs, while even the non-pull-through sites offer ample space. It's worth noting that the campground lacks hookups, providing only vault toilets and potable water facilities.
Typically, the campground operates from mid-May through late December, although this schedule may vary annually. To ensure accurate information, it is advisable to check with the forest service prior to planning your visit.
