Pune Metro Expands: Ridership Soars, New Routes Planned
Since its launch on March 6, 2022, Pune Metro has grown rapidly, offering a fast and eco-friendly commute. Initially operating on PCMC-Phugewadi and Vanaz-Garware College routes, ridership surged with new extensions.
Ridership Growth: From 1.26 lakh (March 2022 - July 2023) to 28.28 lakh per month after the Ruby Hall-Ramwadi extension. Total ridership: 5.98 crore (March 2022 - March 2025).
-Revenue: ₹93 crore collected; daily ridership at 1.6 lakh.
Safety Features: CCTV, panic buttons, baggage scanning, and staff assistance ensure a secure commute.
Metro Expansion Plans
Ongoing Projects: PCMC-Swargate and Vanaz-Ramwadi corridors (33.1 km) operational. PCMC-Nigdi under construction, Swargate-Katraj in tendering stage.
Phase 2 Proposals:
Ramwadi-Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (11.63 km, 11 stations)
Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi (25.51 km, 22 stations)
Vanaz-Chandani Chowk (1.12 km, 2 stations)
Nal Stop-Warje-Manik Baug (6.12 km, 6 stations)
Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor (11.35 km, 10 stations)
Hadapsar-Saswad Road (5.57 km, 4 stations)
The Government of India’s approval is awaited for Phase 2, which will significantly improve Pune’s urban transport.
