As a GP, you're essentially running your own mini hedge fund. My theory is twofold: first, Wall Street will always dominate because of its immense resources. We can make good money until Wall Street steps in and changes the game. If you want to be a GP, you need to be highly knowledgeable and prepared. Conversely, I appreciate owners who prefer to be LPs. Many of us avoid the stock market because we dislike average returns, which is what LPs often get. I advise caution with syndications—many groups profit more from fees than from the actual deals.
