Intel finally broke the mould | i7 8700k

Now that the quad core CPU has been relegated to i3 status, six cores are largely accepted as the optimal choice for gaming without spending a fortune. This wasn’t the case when the i7-8700K hit the market in 2017 - having had their hand forced by AMD’s new Ryzen series, Intel were forced to take the consumer Core series CPUs out of their bubble. The 8700K was the no-compromise CPU of choice for gamers, at a time where high core counts were less important than they are today. Does that mean the Coffee Lake CPU still has a place in modern gaming?
