A common sight in much of the eastern U.S., the Gray Squirrel is an important part of the forest ecosystem -- as well as a lot of fun to watch! They can often be found scampering around the undergrowth foraging for food, like the one in this video. Gray Squirrels are prodigious hoarders when it comes to stocking up for the winter, often burying far more nuts than they'll actually retrieve and eat. In this way, they do their part to plant the next generation of trees.
The Adirondack Park consists of 9,375 square miles of towering mountains, dense wilderness, historic towns, and scenic roadways. It is the largest national park in the United States. This video was filmed at the Nichols Tree Farm, in the foothills around an hour south of the Park's border.
