The key to mastering habits is to be intentional
Habits have three components.
Trigger
A trigger is something that prompts you to carry out a habit. Examples of triggers that prompt us include: time of day, certain events, locations, other people, and emotions. It's 6:00 am - time to exercise.
Action
It is the actual "doing" of the habit. Remember, when you initially decide to develop a new habit, it requires conscious effort. Over time you get better at it, and it becomes more natural and automatic.
Reward
Remember the reward of the habit.
Time for an example
You decide to eat healthier.
What is my reward?
Improved health I will feel better I will lose weight.
What will I sacrifice - in the short term?
Eat much less junk food. Don't instantly my satisfy cravings. Feel hungry - until I get used to it.
What new triggers will I put in place?
I will remove junk food from my home and replace them with healthy options I enjoy. I will make healthy food attractive, so I'm more enticed to eat and enjoy them.
