Michael Wong is a lifelong Bay Area native who was born in San Francisco in 1947. He joined ROTC in 1966 after graduating from high school while attending City College. He was drafted during the Vietnam War and attended basic training before leaving the US for Canada. In this interview, he discusses his early life, education, ROTC, military training, becoming a conscientious objector, choice to flee the country, time in Canada, returning to the US and being held at the stockade after the Presidio 27 Mutiny, and the impact that this period had on his life.
