This week's weather word comes from dracul115 - are you Dracula? Are you some sort of vampire? Is that why you don't have a picture of yourself next to your name? And why are you so interested in thundersnow anyway? I'm watching you!
I'm Storm Shield Meteorologist Jason Meyers. Thundersnow is an unusual thunderstorm where snow is falling instead of rain, and it's usually the result of a strong lake effect snowstorm.
These are pretty rare events, which is why even people who watch the weather all the time, still get really excited about it.
Yeah. It's kind of a big deal.
It takes a strong storm with a lot of instability to cause thunder and lightning, and that's especially difficult to do in colder temperatures, which is why the United States averages about 6 of these events a year with the peak time occurring in early Spring.
If you've ever seen or heard thundersnow in person, I want to know about it, so tell me in the comments below. And while you're at it, send me a new weather word. Don't forget to like and subscribe. See you next week!
